Fun at the Village Dog Park
If you’re bringing your pup along for your stay, be sure to check out the Village Dog Park, only a five-minute drive from the Inn. The public park opened in 2022 and is loved and maintained by the community. The park includes a grassy enclosed area, so there is plenty of room for the dogs to frolic and sniff. There are also picnic tables, benches, and a pavilion so you can sit back and relax in the sun or shade. This is a great way not only to socialize your dog and make sure they get plenty of exercise, but also to make new friends and meet other people in the area. The park is open every day from sunrise to sunset.
We know how difficult it can be to find pet-friendly lodging, which is why we pride ourselves on being dog-friendly. When you book one of our dog-friendly River Bluff Cottage Suites, not only will your furry friend have easy access to fresh air via the decks and patios, but they’ll also enjoy a dog bed, bowl, and treats provided with your room.
Carriage Rides at Historic Hermann Farm
Another unique experience to try out during your stay is the Carriage Ride at the historic Hermann Farm, only 11 minutes from the Inn. This tour is perfect if you’re looking to enjoy a peaceful carriage ride and, at the same time, learn about the area’s history. The tour departs from the Hermann Farm Distillery and lasts about 30 minutes.
Once you’re comfy in the carriage, the majestic team of Black Shire Draft Horses will take you on a journey as you listen to the rhythmic sound of their powerful hooves. The carriage driver will teach you about the history and significance of Hermann Farm and Draft horses. As you listen, you’ll be transported back in time for a glimpse of the lives the first settlers once led on the farm.
Even if you aren’t a history buff, you’ll appreciate the beauty and serenity of the area. Look for wild and domestic animals while on tour, including mules, deer, eagles, turkey, geese, Katahdin Sheep, and Nigerian Dwarf Goats. Other tours, such as the Historic Homes Tour and the Black Shire Distillery Tour, are also available.
Picnic at the Grand Bluffs
Another excellent way to enjoy the fresh air and explore the area is picnicking at the Grand Bluffs. The drive from the Inn is only 20 minutes, and once you arrive, you can take the Scenic Overlook trail (about 2 miles) to the deck atop the bluffs overlooking the Missouri River. The Grand Bluffs are aptly named – the cliffside is 300 feet tall, making them some of the steepest cliffs along the Missouri River. This is a fantastic spot for a picnic, as well as bird-watching, hiking, and photography. If you don’t mind driving a little further, you may also enjoy picnicking at Graham Cave State Park.
