Here at Hermann Hill we are always excited to give our guest free things! Starting July 26 through September 2 we will have free passes for the our guest to Explore the Hermann Heritage Trail
Visit the Deutschheim State Historic Site which features two historic German Houses.
The Pommer- Gnetner House is on Market Street here in Hermann. The home was built for Caroline Pommer in 1840. The Pommers made fine pianos and violins and were early supporters of the Settlement Society.
The Strehly House is located on West Second Street. It was also owned and lived in by the Pommers for over a 100 year. Carl Strehly and his partner Eduard Muehl published the book Der Licht- Freund, a German newspaper.
The Pommer-Gneter House and The Strehly House feature lovely historic landscaping and gardens. You will see and authentic German four-square garden that has heirloom plants and also an arbor that has 100-year-old grapevines on the property.
The second part of the tour is visiting the Historic Hermann Museum at the German School.
The Museum has a collection of items that reflect the heritage and history of Hermann Missouri. The building was build in 1871 as the German Elementary School, and the clock tower was later added in 1890. The school was restored by Historic Hermann in 2010. The elevator and beautiful gated courtyard where both added.
