What is the Katy Trail?
The Katy Trail is a 240-mile biking (or walking) trail, built over an abandoned railroad track. Known as the country’s longest rails-to-trails project, this historic local favorite features many miles of flat terrain, providing an enjoyable experience that’s more fun than strenuous! Whether you ride east or west, you’re guaranteed to see the natural beauty of the area and breathtaking views at every turn.
Fun Fact: Sections of the Katy Trail are part of the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail and the American Discovery Trail!
How Do I Get There?
Our complimentary Hermann Hill Shuttle will chauffeur you (and your bike) right where you want to be! Call the front desk around 10:00am and let us know your trailhead of choice. Portland, Bluffton, and McKittrick are our personal picks for where to start. You will find that these trails are in great shape and they’ll all take you across the new Missouri River Bridge. Or if you would rather, simply park your car at the south end of the Missouri River Bridge and let us shuttle you and your bikes over to the trail. A Hermann Hill employee will follow your car down to the parking lot and pick you up to take you to the trailhead. If you are using one of the bike rental companies in town, we will pick you up there and shuttle you to the Katy Trail too. Our guests who have utilized this handy perk love the ease and convenience, and we know you will too!
Expert Tip: Don’t forget to grab your picnic lunch from the fridge before heading out! Available with our Tour of Hermann Hill Package.
