Close. Clean. Safe
Did you know Hermann Hill is just three miles from the Katy Trail? Built over the abandoned railroad track of the former Missouri-Kansas-Texas (MKT) Railroad (better known as the Katy), this 240-mile long biking and walking trail is known as the country’s longest rails-to-trails project.
Maybe you’ve been down the Katy Trail before, or perhaps it’s on your bucket list. Either way, these four ideas will inspire you to make the Katy part of your next Hermann-area excursion—and we hope you do!
The Katy Trail Celebrates 30 Years in 2020
When the railroad ceased operations, the Missouri State Park Division was able to acquire the railroad right-of-way in 1986 through a generous donation by the St. Louis based financial services firm known as Edward D. Jones. Construction of the Katy Trail began in 1987, and the first section of the Trail was opened in 1990 at Rocheport, Missouri—which means 2020 is the Katy’s 30th anniversary!
Combine Leisure With Adventure on The Katy
Whether you are an avid bicyclist or leisurely walker, nature lover, birdwatcher or history buff, the Trail offers opportunities for recreation, nature-based adventures and an avenue to uncover Missouri’s rich past. The Katy Trail allows you to glimpse into slices of the rural history in the small towns sprinkled throughout some of the most scenic areas in the Show-Me State.
Sun-dappled Wineries Around Nearly Every Turn
While navigating the Katy Trail, you can experience one or all seven family-owned wineries that meander for 20 scenic miles along the Missouri River between Hermann and New Haven. Each of these wineries is located six miles or less from the Katy Trail. It’s definitely worth the extra pedaling for wine connoisseurs!
Leave the Driving to Hermann Hill
We’d love to help you experience the Trail, which is why our complimentary Hermann Hill Shuttle will chauffeur you (and your bike) to your trailhead of choice. If you’re renting a bike from one of Hermann’s bike shops, we’ll even pick you up there and deliver you to the Trail.
In fact, why not make the focus of your anniversary getaway a trip to the Katy? Our Tour of Hermann Hill package includes pickup and drop off services, a picnic lunch with a bottle of wine, and two 60-minute Katy Biker Trail massages in our state-of-the-art spa. This is an excellent option for couples that love actively exploring while on vacation!
Staycation with Us at Hermann Hill
In the past few weeks, our lodging guests have told us there are three main reasons why they choose Hemann Hill for their staycation again and again. First, Hermann Hill is CLOSE. Close to their homes so they can relax and get away without the stress of airports and flying. Second, Hermann Hill is CLEAN. Peggy and Terry live in the Inn, and our staff has the highest hygienic standards. Our 20 rooms are thoroughly cleaned, checked, and checked again. Both the Inn and cottages are guest-ready on arrival.
And lastly, Hermann is a SAFE place to visit. A town of only 2500 people, Hermann is focused on tourism and making guests feel safe remains to be our top priority. As soon as our guests exit the interstate and cross the Missouri River bridge, they have a sense of returning to a safer and less hectic place.
At Hermann Hill, we love the Katy Trail, and we especially enjoy helping our guests get the chance to experience it, too. Book your stay at our boutique hotel today and enjoy personalized services, luxurious amenities, gourmet breakfasts and so much more—all while making the Katy Trail part of your adventure in 2020!
