Celebrating Missouri Wineries
As the crush begins and we dream of swirling a glass of wine from this year’s harvest, we thought it would be fun to explore the many Missouri Wineries we have in and around Hermann Missouri.
First on our list must be the oldest family farm winery here in Missouri, the Adam Puchta Winery. The Frene Valley welcomed John Henry Puchta in 1839 from Bavaria, Germany. He and his family toiled in the 600 acres of land to plant vineyards and build a lovely arched wine cellar from native stone. His son, Adam established the Adam Puchta and Son Wine Company in 1855. While the family continued to make wine and farm the land until Prohibition closed the doors, future generations of the family lead by Randolph and his son Tim reopened the winery in 1989 and will celebrate its 21st anniversary in October 2010.
Tim continues to oversee day to day operations at the winery which has a 62,000 gallon capacity and distributes both wholesale, retail on the premises, and mail order where allowed by the various states. They have won awards in Missouri, Nationally and Internationally and they would enjoy sharing a tasting with you at their winery which is open 7 days a week, excluding holidays (Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years).
Be sure to ask for a taste of their Berry Black, which they describe as exhibiting “the natural sweet fruit and berry characteristics of freshly picked blackberries as they explode in your mouth, yummy!”
Make sure you include the Adam Puchta Winery (located just 8 minutes from downtown Hermann, MO) on your next tour through Missouri wine country, and make our Missouri bed and breakfast your base camp … book your stay at Hermann Hill Bed and Breakfast Vineyard Inn!
