Hang out with the locals at Rivertown Restaurant at 222 E. First St. The ever-smiling owner, Kathy Schwartz, has been serving up breakfast, lunch and dinner here since 1987. The restaurant has a loyal following among the locals. Kathy tells of one man who has been in every day since she opened, sometimes twice a day.
The casual country decor is inviting for those looking for a complete meal or just a cup of coffee and a piece of homemade pie. This family-oriented restaurant features lunch and dinner specials, soups made from scratch, Hermann wines and German beer, and the only salad bar in town.
Kathy's dad was in the butchering business and from him she learned how to cut the meat, grind the hamburger, and make the bratwurst that are offered daily. Kathy's husband, Doug, smokes the brats outdoors behind the restaurant. She claims that brats and German potato salad are among the most popular menu items, especially in the summer.
The restaurant is open seven days a week starting at 7 a.m. Closing time is 8 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, 1 p.m. Sunday, and 2 p.m. Monday. During the winter, the restaurant closes at 7 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday. For information, or to order out, call 573-486-3298. |
