Most heroes don't wear a cape. Those are the folks we like to salute at Hermann Hill.
This month, a special Hermann Hill "thank you" goes out to all the volunteer firemen—past and present—who have protected our town for a century and a half.
The Hermann Fire Company celebrates its 150th anniversary this month. In honor of the occasion, guests who qualify for our American Hero discount will receive a complimentary bottle of our Naked Grilling Sauce or Port Chocolate Raspberry. This special will continue through September and the first week of October (National Fire Prevention Week).
Speaking of heroes . . . August winners of our Local Heroes Program are:
- Linda Williams, nominated by Donna and William Englehart of Fishers, Indiana. Linda envisioned opening a community food pantry through her church. Thanks to her passion and hard work, 50 volunteers now staff a food pantry that serves some 300 people a week.
- Beth Hanson, nominated by Tom and Kerry Miller of Lake in the Hills, Illinois. Beth, a school teacher, makes an extra effort to help aging parents in their time of need.
Gift certificates will be mailed to the guests who nominated this month's winners, so they can present them to their local heroes in person.
Tell us what you think . . .
In this month's survey, we'd like to hear your opinion of Hermann-area wines and wineries. We'll report the results next month and pass your comments on to local winemakers.
Traditional favorites carried the day in last month's breakfast survey. French toast was the hands-down favorite bread entree. Brunch Egg Casserole was the highest scoring egg entree.
We also received some great suggestions. (Splits of champagne for mimosas and take-out breakfast sandwiches for early departures were our favorites). But the overwhelming message was don't change. "How do you improve on perfection?" asked one guest.
