roses

Everything’s coming up roses at Hermann Hill.

Roses and grapevines are natural companions. The roses planted at the end of each row in our Norton Vineyard are now in glorious bloom, and guests in the Vidal and Seyval suites are enjoying roses just off their patios.

There's lots happening in Hermann this weekend.

Hermann's Calendar of Events

Dear [fname],

A new puppy comes to live at the Inn.

gracie & puppySince last month's newsletter, we've been overwhelmed with an outpouring of kind sentiments over the passing of Fred, who spent eight happy years as the Inn's greeter-in-chief.

Readers also suggested names for the Inn's new chocolate lab puppy, the most popular being George, Hershey, Cocoa, Coco, Choco, Cadbury, Basil, Nestle, Fernando, Fetch, Bailey, Hunter, Trapper, Coffee, Groucho, Mocha, Norton, Romeo, Porter, and Vino.

After much deliberation, we've named the puppy (drum roll, please) Meriwether Lewis—Lewis for short. There have been unconfirmed reports that when the Corps of Discovery poled their long boats past Hermann in 1804, Lewis remarked to Clark that it looked like the perfect place for a B&B.

Staying on target can be very rewarding.

Guests staying at Hermann Hill on a targeted date in June will receive a $20 voucher to the Hermann Hill Gift Shop and a copy of the popular Sunrise Inn Missouri Bed and Breakfast Cookbook. This month’s targeted dates are:

  • Thursday, June 9
  • Wednesday, June 15
  • Tuesday, June 21
  • Monday, June 27.

This special can be combined with our American Hero, multiple-night, mid-week and last-minute discounts.

Pillow talk

Guest comments have been entirely positive about the expanded selection of pillows now available at the Inn and Cottages. Guests have a choice of three firmnesses, including memory foam pillows.

Last month's "threads" winners celebrated anniversaries at Hermann Hill.

Mike and Donna of St. Peters, Missouri, write . . . This is our second stay at Hermann Hill, a cozy, comfortable, peaceful, and relaxing retreat. When we took our vows 38 years ago, we were two very young people with no clue of what lay ahead. We just knew we loved each other deeply and wanted to be together to share our lives. It's been a great ride—no regrets.

Mike and Mollie of McPherson, Kansas, write . . . Instead of a big 50th anniversary party, we wanted a family celebration. So our sons and their families are joining us for a week on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. One of our sons gave us a gift certificate to use at a bed and breakfast en route. In looking through the directory, we thought Hermann Hill looked interesting. It was a good choice. We enjoyed exploring the town, and Hermann Hill is a beautiful inn.

In observance of Memorial Day, it also seems appropriate to include this entry from Robin and her husband, Josh:

We are celebrating seeing each other for the first time in a year, since we are both active duty soldiers in the U.S. Army. Josh is stationed in Afghanistan and I'm in Iraq.  Although I'm only home for two weeks leave, it's something to celebrate. We won't reunite permanently until a month before our second anniversary in October. Thank you for an amazing and relaxing stay.
