Dear [fname],

chocolate sauceIf you're coming to Hermann for Kristkindl Markt, stop by the Inn, where you'll find a great view and the perfect stocking stuffer.

This holiday season we're selling our delicious Port Chocolate Raspberry Sauce for just $10 a bottle, tax included, half off the regular price. The accompanying recipe booklet includes those decadent cookies we serve Inn guests at bedtime and Buckler's beloved homemade ice cream.

We originally intended for this to be a Groupon offer. But they couldn't fit us into their December schedule, so we're spreading the word the old-fashioned way, via the newsletter. We just received a new shipment of bottles from California and are making 1,500 bottles of sauce for holiday giving. This once-a-year deal ends December 22. Limit one case per customer, please.

Now more than ever, a pampered stay at Hermann Hill is a gift they'll truly treasure.

gift certificate"The best gift we've ever received" is a remark we hear time and again from guests, nearly 40 percent of whom arrive with a gift certificate in hand.

Meet Mary Battocletti

A talented cook, Mary Battocletti can usually be found in the Inn kitchen, making breakfast for appreciative guests or inventing a new recipe. Mary started work at Hermann Hill eight years ago, after retiring from Southwestern Bell. In her free time, she enjoys horseback riding and spending time with her two grandsons. She and Hal, her husband of 39 years, make a yearly pilgrimage to Texas, where they spend part of each winter.

From zip lining to biking the Katy Trail, last month's "threads" winners enjoyed active getaways.

Polly and Kurt of O’Fallon, Illinois write . . . We really enjoyed the three-mile historic walk, which starts and ends at the Inn. We also brought our bikes and recommend a ride on the Katy Trail.

But the best part of our stay was coming back to Hermann Hill Inn, where we were married nine years ago. Reading our journal entry brought back so many wonderful memories. Peggy and Terry have a first-class operation. The little things, like providing dog biscuits for Gracie and Fred and bringing nightly cookies and ice cream to our door, make us want to come back time and again.

Kody and Mallory of West Plains, Missouri, write . . . The view at the Inn was breathtaking, even on a dreary November day. We were just as impressed driving up the hill to the Village. We went through our Cottage fridge, oohing and aahing over Ben and Jerry's ice cream, to-die-for cookies and Port Chocolate Raspberry Sauce.

The next morning we tried zip lining in New Florence, about 10 miles from the Cottages. What a blast! We had a great tour and lunch at Stone Hill, then visited Tin Mill Brewing Company and Hermannhof Winery. At Adam Puchta Winery, Charlene was super friendly and talked to us about pairing wine with food.

Thank you, Hermann Hill, for a lovely experience.
